The Harry Ransom Center houses one of the finest cultural  archives in the world with a major emphasis on the literature of America, Great Britain and France.  Important manuscripts by James Joyce, Ernest Hemingway, George Bernard Shaw and numerous others represent the core of the Center's great collection numbering 36 million literary manuscripts, one million rare books, five million photographs, and over 100,000 works of art.  The Ransom Center's Gutenberg Bible (c. 1455) is on permanent display.  In the Center's photography collection is the world's first photograph "View from the Window at le Gras" (c. 1826) that is the cornerstone not only to UT's Photography Collection but also to the process of photography.  Exhibitions and events are free and open to the public.

The Ransom Center is located at the NE corner of 21st and Guadalupe on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin.
